Arrival and Departure

The journey to Riffelalp Resort 2'222m is a true highlight of the experience. As you ascend the mountain, it soon becomes clear you’re travelling beyond the noise to a place of peace, mental clarity and deep immersion in nature.

Riffelalp Resort 2'222m is reached via the village of Zermatt, then the Gornergrat Railway to Riffelalp station. To make your journey as smooth as possible, we recommend that you read this guide carefully and let us know your travel plans and intended arrival time by emailing or phoning us beforehand.

Your arrival in Zermatt

The first leg of the journey

There are several ways to get to the mountain village of Zermatt:

  • Find up-to-date information regarding the Car Transport Kandersteg/Goppenstein.

    Zermatt is a car-free village. If you intend to drive, you can get as close as Täsch (5km from Zermatt). For your convenience, we’ll arrange parking for you at our Welcome Parking garage. From here, you can take the Täsch shuttle train to Zermatt.

  • Zermatt can be reached by train on the local line from transport hubs like Visp and Brig, where you can change for the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to Zermatt. You can buy your tickets from the SBB website or via the SBB mobile app.

    Last train to Riffelalp

    The last train to Riffelalp departs from Täsch at 11:00 p.m. and from Zermatt at 11:30 p.m.

    The Gornergrat Railway operates daily from 8:24 a.m. to 4:24 p.m., with departures every 24 minutes. Please find the timetable here.

  • We’d be happy to arrange a private taxi transfer or helicopter transfer from a local airport for you. Contact us for further advice.

The Gornergrat Railway

Your route to Riffelalp

Riffelalp Resort 2'222m is only accessible via the Gornergrat Railway, which runs from Zermatt to the Riffelalp stop. Please notify us of your arrival time in Zermatt so that our porter can meet you in the village and help you with your luggage.

The Gornergrat Railway runs every 24 minutes from 08:24 a.m. to 4:24 p.m., then at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 9:50 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Please carefully check the Gornergrat Bahn train timetable before setting off.

It’s important to note that there’s no service in the evening between 7:24 p.m. and 9:50 p.m.. If you plan to take one of the later trains from Zermatt at 9:50 p.m. or 11:30 p.m., the station will only be open 5 minutes before departure.

Arriving at Riffelalp Resort 2'222m

Connecting to the resort

Once you arrive at the Riffelalp stop, our porter will take care of your luggage.

In summer, our Riffelalp tram – the highest tram in Europe – transports you and your luggage on the 5-minute journey from the station to the resort.

In winter, your luggage will be transported by our electric skidoo. Meanwhile, you’ll enjoy a refreshing 8-minute walk through the larch and Swiss stone pine forest to our doors and become immersed in the peace of nature.

The last possible evening arrival at Riffelalp is 11:00 p.m. from Täsch and 11:30 p.m. from Zermatt.

  • Get in touch with our team and let us know your travel plans.
  • Check the live timetable to make sure the departure times match your travel connections.
  • Buy your Gornergrat railway ticket in advance via the SBB website or app.
  • If you’re travelling by car, book your parking space with us in advance.
  • Make sure you have the right shoes for travelling into high alpine terrain.
  • Is your luggage suitable for travel? It will be transported via skidoo through snow and ice in alpine conditions.

Departing from Riffelalp Resort 2'222m

Good to know

The first train departs from Riffelalp at 7:56 a.m., followed by the next connection at 9:32 a.m. From then on, trains run every 24 minutes.

Please note that the Gornergrat Railway is the only connection between Riffelalp and Zermatt.

Excursions to Zermatt

Getting out and back

If you’re planning a visit to Zermatt and are returning to Riffelalp station in the evening, you will need to walk the 8 minutes back to the resort from Riffelalp station. Please note that after 10:30 p.m., we can’t provide skidoo transfers to preserve the tranquillity of the resort.
